George DeLancey – NYC based jazz bassist – is no stranger to the Lansing area, having been part of MSU Jazz Studies (a student of bassist Rodney Whitaker). Possessing a powerfuL sound, authoritative beat, and an intense, unrelenting swing, DeLancey’s reputation as a formidable musician extends from his hometown of Cambridge, OH, to the New York City jazz circuit, and to audiences around the country. He has performed with Christian Howes, Wessell “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Winard Harper, Johnny O’Neal, Richard Galliano, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center All Stars. He is an active composer and band leader, and co-led the acclaimed Sailors/ DeLancey Jazz Orchestra with trumpeter Michael Sailors,  The orchestra, known as the only “all original music” jazz orchestra, with its repertoire of big band music arranged for jazz by Sailors & DeLancey–performed  at Lansing JazzFest in 2010.

George has a strong commitment to music education as well.  He has performed, instructed, and lectured at elementary schools, high schooLs, and universities across the country with the Winard Harper Ensemble, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz for Young People program, and national touring educational ensemble All Grooves.
