South Turner Street Stage

Variously described as “Exotica”, “Amazing”, and “Surprisingly Good”, the band’s material includes tunes such as Duke Ellington’s “Amad” , Charles Mingus’s “Boogie Stop Shuffle” and Grant Green’s “Ain’t it Funky Now” mixed with Eastern European folk music and Hard Rock.. The band explores extreme contrasts between the simple, traditional, and light with the complex, experimental, and heavy.

“Atomic Boogaloo is comprised of four well known members of the Capital City jazz scene including Bob Bryan (drums), Andy Callis (farfisa accordion), John Gerwitz (saxophone) and Aaron Holland (guitar). Assembling nearly five years ago, each member brought with them a unique set of skills and musical tastes. Listening to one of their tracks feels like someone took Kenny G, the Doors, a drum set, and a polka band and threw them all into a blender. The result? A “smooth jazz smoothie”. Or maybe a “smooth jazzie”?” (source: LCC Radio Reporter Philippe Goudiaby.)
