An unmistakable charismatic performance, Straight Ahead – led by jazz performer and instructor Marion Hayden – pours its collective heart out to its audience with authenticity and musical acuity for a dynamic experience.
“We pull from many different directions within the school of jazz like Latin and swing style, which incorporates a mix of straight jazz and funkier side of jazz,” says Hayden.
This five-member ensemble masterfully mixes a host of musical material with solid vocals. Straight Ahead – straight from the heart of Detroit – these seasoned musicians speak volumes through their instruments. Bestowing ample solos to its audiences, they captivate and leave listeners resonating with audible and physical sensations.
Whether it’s a discerning palate or a newcomer’s interest, Straight Ahead will captivate with its rich sound of solid jazz and funk.

Entering its 17th year, the Lansing JazzFest is a two-day FREE music festival that brings national, regional, and local acts to an audience of roughly 15,000 people from across Michigan and nearby states.
JazzFest’s music truly is living music, history in the making. Each artist at the festival is asked to play an original composition, something that hasn’t been played at any other festival.
This year’s festival will take place Friday, August 5 (4pm-12am), and Saturday, August 6, 2011 (1pm-12am).
