The LanSwingers vocal jazz/pop ensemble is an energetic and fun group from Lansing Community College.  Directed by Lara Wagner, they are a student group of 10-12 singers, male and female, of all ages, with a student-based rhythm section.  The group contains mostly music majors performing a variety of tunes like “Route 66,” “What a Wonderful World,” “And So It Goes,” “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” and “Virtual Insanity.”

The Lansing Community College Jazz Band, under the direction of Jonathon Gewirtz, is a unique collection of members of the community, high school students, and Lansing Community College students.  A wide range of skill levels – ranging from music majors and professionals to non-music majors and amateurs, this group’s current instrumentation includes saxophones, trombones, trumpets, bass, drums, piano, guitar, and vocalist.

The LCC Jazz Band is performs diverse styles of jazz music, including classic big band standards, swing, Latin, bebop, soul, modal, and funk (fusion).

Performances include jazz standards such as “Polka Dots and Moonbeams” and “Fever,” repertoire from Count Basie including “Bones for Basie,” “That Warm Feeling,” and “Alright, Okay, You Win,” Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” Bobby Timmons’ “Moanin’,” Latin jazz music such as Tito Puente’s “Ran KanKan,” Dizzy Gillespie’s “A Night in Tunisia,” Arturo Sandoval’s “Funky Cha Cha,” and a funky ode to James Brown entitled, “JB.”
